A Sports massage is ideal to treat injuries as well as a preventative treatment dealing with the health of muscle and connective tissue, range of movement, tone, symmetry, balance of muscle and quality of posture.
This treatment works deep in the muscles, realigning the muscle fibres and connective tissue, and flushing away the toxins. Regular sessions will increase joint mobility and flexibility, and reduce the risk of injury during exercise.
Decreased muscle spasm and improved range of motion of muscles/joints Reduce pain
Resolvement of radicular symptoms (e.g. sciatica and referred pain down leg/arm)
Better recruitment and activation of appropriate muscles
Improved muscle activation patterns (Meaning you can lift more weight in the gym/increase speed/improve performance!)
Central Nervous system response at the level of the dry needling
Alteration in chemical balance within the muscle (this can decrease sensations of pain and reduces muscular dysfunction)
Relief of both acute and chronic pain
Promote healing at the area of the injury
Better relaxation/switching off in tight muscles
WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?
Dry needling is an effective treatment for acute or chronic pain.
The procedure involves the insertion of a thin filament needle to stimulate the healing process of soft tissues, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and in some cases nerve may be treated. The purpose of dry needling is pain relief and regain muscle length and function.
Many conditions can be treated by using this technique, for example:
WHAT IS KINESIO TAPE?
Kinesio tape will help those areas that need a bit of support and hold those muscles in place while training allowing the area to heal and gain better movement.
It works by supporting the muscle or joint while lifting the skin allowing the blood circulation to increase and flow through the area supported allowing the healing process to begin at that area.
The kinesio tape, used by our sports therapist at Ferrifit, has menthol properties which is highly effective for reducing any pain and inflammation.
Kirstin is our Sports Therapist at Ferri Fit.
She holds a diploma in sports massage, deep tissue, aromatherapy and is fully qualified in dry needling and kinesio taping.
She treats clients who train in a variety of sports, and has worked alongside dancers and artists performing at the Glasgow Hydro, as well as others who simply seek relaxation.
Kirstin regularly assists clients who are experiencing postural difficulties, lack of movement, chronic conditions to some who generally need to de-stress.
With her background knowledge on different conditions and effects of treatments, she will advise what procedure she thinks will best benefit each client.
